February 5 - February 6

IEI - Kidnomics

2018 Day One, February 5th: Raleigh Convention Center
2018 Day Two, February 6th: NCSU Hunt Library (space is limited, register today!)

The Institute for Emerging Issues is entrenched in its current program of work – kidonomics: The Economics of Early Childhood Investment. This work examines the connections between early childhood investments, North Carolina’s economy, and the development of a well-trained workforce. To kick off a unique, two-year concentration on this important issue, we welcomed 350 thought leaders to Hunt Library at NC State University for a special Emerging Issues “Focus Forum” on this topic, February 7, 2017, and we’re gearing up for the 2018 Emerging Issues Forum on February 5-6, 2018.

During the next two years, IEI will focus on the economics of early childhood investment. Preparing our youth today for the skills they will need tomorrow is crucial for their success as adults. But when exactly should we begin preparing our kids? Are there wider, long-term impacts on the economy and to a skilled workforce?

There is growing evidence that early childhood is a crucial moment to create a foundation for good health and well-being, and for achieving greater success socially, academically, and in the workforce. Understanding these relationships will set the stage for targeted investments that will help position North Carolina at the forefront of the nation. We must work collaboratively to craft a vision for economic prosperity and workforce preparedness – one that begins with ensuring success for our kids.

Please join us in February 2018 to connect with issue experts, educators, legislators, and North Carolina leaders from business, economic development and the nonprofit sectors, to share ideas on how we can move the state forward on this issue of critical importance to our future.
