Focus on Foreign Direct Investment

North Carolina in general and the Triangle in particular have benefited greatly from foreign direct investment. This investment grows our economy, creates jobs, and spurs technological and scientific advancements. Moderated by Robin Pipkin, Partner at Poyner Spruill, our panel will focus on factors influencing foreign companies’ decision to locate to this area, their successes, and the corresponding challenges. The panel will also discuss how the Triangle can increase its attractiveness to foreign companies considering a U.S. worksite.

Robin E. Pipkin – Partner, Poyner Spruill
Mr. Pipkin is a corporate attorney whose law practice concentrates on commercial real estate, business and corporate law, tax law, trust and estate planning, estate administration, income tax return preparation, and representation of clients before the Internal Revenue Service.
John Reid Sidebotham – Project Manager, Wake County Economic Development
Mr. Sidebotham manages all aspects of WCED’s business recruitment and expansion process and contributes to the overall BRE strategy. He also leads WCED’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) initiative, which aims to identify and attract investment from foreign-owned companies and market the region to a global audience. The initiative also serves as a convener of both local people and ideas, while continually partnering with resources and organizations from across the state of North Carolina.
Stella Chen, CPA – Senior Tax Manager, DHG
Ms. Chen assists clients in such areas as international and domestic tax compliance and consulting, tax accounting methods, business entity structuring and planning, and tax controversy, including audit support and state voluntary disclosure. She also leads DHG’s Chinese Business Services and has served many Chinese companies for their direct investment or expansion in the US. In addition, she provides tax planning services for foreign nationals and expatriates.
Chris Hare, CMgr, CCMI – CEO, The nTete Group
Mr. Hare specializes in technology industry management, much of it in the Internet of Things (IoT), wireless, and user interface technologies in Europe, North and South America, and Asia. He is CEO of The nTete Group leading strategy, innovation, and licensing for a range of international clients and partners. He is partner in Thingovations, an Internet of Things consulting and product consolidation team, and a Limited Partner in Full Tilt Capital, a preseed investment fund. He is also on the board of, an adviser to, and an investor in a range of other organizations.
