Daniel Hannan: “Brexit: Cheer Up!”
Join us for the 2020 Pope Lecture, given by Daniel Hannan: “Brexit: Cheer Up!” The lecture will be held Monday, March 23, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. on the NC State campus, in Caldwell Hall, room G107.
Daniel Hannan is a writer, journalist and former member of the European Parliament (MEP). After 17 years as a MEP, where he campaigned for British withdrawal from the European Union (EU), he says he succeeded in abolishing his job in the Brexit referendum. Britain officially left the EU on Jan. 31, 2020, after 47 years of membership.
Hannan is the author of nine books, including the New York Times bestseller Inventing Freedom: How the English-Speaking Peoples Made the Modern World. Hannan’s latest book, What Next: How to Get the Best from Brexit, draws on his experiences during the Brexit campaign, explores what people were voting for and looks into what’s next for the country.
Parking and Directions: Caldwell Hall is located at 2221 Hillsborough Street on the NC State Campus. Free parking is available after 5 p.m. in the “B” lot across from Caldwell Hall, in the Ferndell and Oberlin gravel lots (just off the Oberlin traffic circle and near Player’s Retreat), or in NC State’s Coliseum parking deck. Paid parking on Hillsborough Street is also available.
Caldwell G107 is a small theater on the ground floor of Caldwell Hall. From Hillsborough Street, enter either through Tompkins or Winston Hall and locate stairs (or elevators) that take you down one flight to the ground level. Caldwell Hall is between Tompkins and Winston, all of which are connected.
The John W. Pope Lecture Series is hosted by NC State’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences to encourage dialogue on topics of political and economic interest. This lecture series is supported by a grant from the John W. Pope Foundation.
